Was I an Exception
The Creator fashioned me for His obedience,
yet I remained engrossed in the love of people.
In times of joy I saw so many faces,
in times of sorrow I found no company but this sky.
No one searched for me outside good days,
nor did I search for the Creator outside bad days.
Then all the pain I received from people,
I carried again as complaints to the Creator.
Those whom I branded as selfish,
was I an exception before the Creator?
My Own Hanging
The body hangs from the noose of his towel,
the soul hangs from his lover’s scarf.
For a long time the lover called him her own,
today someone else has touched the lover.
So his soul nearly drowned in the flood of its own tears.
At last he himself hanged himself,
he loved this was his crime.
The Wish to Stay
The wish to let go is as necessary as it is.
Yet more necessary is the wish to stay.
One who has decided once in his heart to leave,
even if you gather sky and earth together for him,
even if you let him enjoy all the fruits of creation at once,
he will not stay.
The Pair-Broken Weaverbird
How much love for you still lives in me,
even knowing it, what would you do, tell me?
The measure of love has not yet been discovered.
But this much I can say listen,
if I do not love you, then tell me why?
Even as a pair-broken weaverbird, I weave my home alone.
The Black Mark of Lovelessness
When was it that I last smiled so freely,
when was it that you last loved me.
After that you have not loved me for so long,
for so long no trace of a smile has come to my face.
I wait to smile again with you, passing my days in that hope.
Yet the night does not accept the promises of the day.
If you do not believe, look beneath the eyes,
there clearly floats the black mark of lovelessness.
Relationship
Together two rose saplings were bought,
then the two were tested in two different ways.
One rose sapling was kept with care,
light and water were given on time.
The other sapling was never looked after,
no light, no water, no care was given.
Soon it was seen,
the cared-for sapling grew beautifully,
with lovely, fragrant rose blossoms.
And the neglected sapling died for lack of care.
Stagnation Is Worthless
A vehicle that stands still,
no one rides it, it is worthless.
A life that does not move toward the future,
that stops in grief and sorrow, standing still,
that life too is worthless.
In that life no one stays beside holding a hand,
nor is there anyone to move forward together.
Whether vehicle or life, in stagnation all is worthless.
Be Well
It begins with countless words, enchanting feelings.
It flows with so much love, promises, sensations.
And it ends silent, devoid of feeling.
At the conclusion of most loves there remains only,
“Be well, this was as far as our journey went,”
“You be well too, I have nothing more to say!”
Worthless Feelings
Never had I been a vessel of such neglect.
I wanted to spend a beautiful life with you,
I wanted to build a dreamlike home with you.
All the cries I had to make you mine,
to you they were worthless feelings.
The worthless feelings of a plainly cheap man.
After the Need Ends
Youth loves hair, love loves flowers.
When youth fades, the lack of hair causes no ache,
when love fades, even withered flowers cause no regret.
So too, relationships between people last only till need.
When the need ends, no one even looks back.
The Disobedient Servant and You
I know you can feel it too,
how much the distance between your feet and mine is growing.
Just as a disobedient servant senses the distance from God Almighty,
how far away he has gradually drifted.
But you do not wish to return,
or even if you wish, you can no longer return.
As a disobedient servant, knowing it all, remains trapped by the nafs,
even wanting to, he can no longer answer God’s call.
