How He Lives

Naive Mind

Ask your mind, Khubayb,
for whom does it cry instead?
Explain to your naive mind, the one for whom it cries,
in Allah’s world that very person has neglected it the most,
trapping you in the snare of illusion.

Wrong Expenditure

Yet we humans waste most of our lives envying others’ success.
Watching what others have done, why and how they have done it,
we spend our beautiful lives.
At the end of the day we regret, why did it not happen to me?
Why was it not in my fate?
Why did the One above not give it to me?
Yet the time we were supposed to spend on our own work,
we spent it by envying others.

Enemy

If being deceived determines who is an enemy,
then man’s greatest enemy is himself.
Without one’s own courage, without one’s own help,
no one can deceive anyone.
Moreover, people, in trying to please others,
deceive themselves in the worst way.
Therefore apart from oneself,
man has no greater enemy, nor can he have.

How He Lives

He who remembered you with every breath,
he who searched for you on stormy nights,
he who longed for your company in deep despair,
or who placed you in supplication before the Lord,
yet could not have you.
Have you ever thought, O star,
where is that hollow man today, how does he live?
Without you how does that wretched one survive alone?

Whose Fault

In this lonely night I nurture the memory of the one,
I wonder, why did she not become mine?
Why could I not become hers?
Why does this heart hold endless loneliness today?
Why does this heart that nurtures you fail to find a ray of light?
Why tell me has endless darkness been born in this heart today?
I have heard, it is forbidden to blame destiny,
then tell me, whose fault is this burnt, lost heart?
