I had sheltered her in the deepest chambers of my heart,
Within my chest she reigned with unshaken sovereignty.
Yet in return for this boundless devotion, one day she asked for something different,
The queen of my soul wished for distance.
At first, a tide of hesitation rose within me,
Still, I welcomed her desire with gentle acceptance.
Though I knew, without her, life would turn into regret,
A silent shadow of sorrow would remain,
And there would always be the fear of unhappiness.
Yet I surrendered, in humble devotion,
Granting even more distance than what she smilingly sought.
For I had heard it said, love means sacrifice,
That no matter the cost, one must preserve the beloved’s joy.
And I did not wish to be the exception.
As she wished, I fulfilled her every desire.
Otherwise, what kind of love would mine be?
If I cannot behold her in her smile,
Then how could I call it love?
