Poem: On My Beloved's Birthday

Then I found that flower,
within whose heart I drew the map of my love.
This chest was once a desert, cracked by drought,
and you came, like gentle dew, soothing, cool and tender.

Your presence came like the answer to a prayer,
like the touch of rain on a beggar’s thirsty soul.
Life found again its rhythm, its breath.
What gift shall I give you my beloved, on your birthday?
You are my every peace,
the quiet refuge for this weary body and heart,
where even my smallest and greatest feelings find shelter.
And everything else,
is just a gift of the eternal right to rest my head upon your chest.

Before the Lord, I shall ask and ask again and again,
for the highest peak of your success.
And I shall wish too,
that you remain forever as you are today.
Just as I have seen you now,
your pulse carrying my name, your heart full of love for me.
And I have seen too,
my identity echoing through all your deeds.
May there never be an exception,
to this unbroken flow of your feeling for me.
