Poem: Love or Dictatorship

When the chorus of a thousand birds melts into one,
where no single voice can be separated from the rest,
within that indistinguishable crowd I chose you from the innermost core of all humankind.
As if my heart had been locked inside a secret chamber,
and I was thrown into a bewildering maze of countless keys.
And I was told, choose the right key,
the key that in truth was you.
In the vast emptiness of this star-ringed universe,
you were kept hidden like a pearl sealed within the unnoticed shell of a tiny planet.
And in search of you, following the trail of your footprints,
I finally arrived before that secluded door.
After coming this far, why would I ever let you go?
Why would I tell you, you are free, go wherever you wish?

I am as unwavering as your paternal lineage,
as inevitable and visible as a birthmark.
I am that identity of yours
that can be called by many names, yet can never be changed.
Just as His essence has remained the same since the very dawn of creation,
though some say Ishwar, some say Allah, some say Bhagwan.
Call it love, call it lover or call it husband,
the face that will emerge on the horizon of your eyes the moment you utter the word,
that face must be my form.
In this claim I am uncompromising; in love, being this greedy is no sin.
Now think whatever you want, love or an unyielding dictatorship.
I want you at any cost,
and in your case this selfishness of mine is my oldest and only truth.
