I have performed Hajj twice,
Behold, by my Lord’s mercy such a wondrous fate is mine.
I possess abundant Islamic knowledge,
I know all the rules and laws, ignorant I am not.
I’ve sent my son to study in the madrasa,
In my heart I nurture the dream of making him a great scholar.
He will spread my name far and wide,
He will lead my funeral prayer,
And pray for me, this is my hope.
My deeds echo across society, my name resounds with honor.
I built a school in my father’s name spreading light among the people.
On my own land I established a clinic,
And named it after my father as well.
Surely society will make me the chief guest,
Be it in festivals or even in disputes.
I know I am honest,
Never have I bowed my head to money.
I wish no stain of disgrace ever touches my name.
I shall keep serving humanity,
My Lord knows, surely, in return, He will grant me the best reward.
But wait a moment, let me see who is calling at this odd hour?
“Hello, Mr. Asad, tell me…
Oh, the file is pending due to some official complication,
And in truth, I have no legal authority in hand,
What could I possibly do, tell me?
What…? Alright, brother,
What you mentioned as a tea-and-snack expense will do just fine.
Since you insist so much, how can I refuse?
Come early tomorrow morning to my office,
It will be done In Sha Allah, Assalamu Alaikum.”
