The Fate of a Pauper

We had sworn to stay together for life,
Yet midway through the path, you broke that vow.
I stood alone in the dust of the road,
While you chose another shadow to follow.
Not once did you glance back,
As if no love or longing for me had ever existed.

How can I even blame you now?
For this was the fate of a pauper.
By the cruelty of destiny, I lost you!
Tell me, did I ever hold back in love?

Had I been granted you,
I would have poured all my love without reserve.
All that remained unfulfilled in this fleeting life,
You were one rare hope among them.
Yet the heart that once held eternal love for me,
Has now built a home for another.
